Our mandate: To promote a legislative and regulatory environment in Ontario favourable to REALTORS® and real estate
We are a very busy department. Our GR staff is continuously advocating on numerous REALTOR® issues, conducting policy analysis, meeting regularly with Ontario Ministers and MPPs and working hard to establish a REALTOR® presence at Queen’s Park.
One of the most notable achievements is an amendment to the Electronic Commerce Act, 2000 to extend the Act’s legal protections to electronic agreements of purchase and sale. Once proclaimed, this amendment will encourage the use of modern technology in everyday real estate transactions, benefiting both REALTORS® and consumers.
Among OREA’s other priorities at Queen’s Park is personal real estate corporations (PREC). OREA continues to lobby provincial government for the REALTOR® right to form personal real estate corporations and take advantage of lower tax rates, just as other professionals do.
REALTORS® play a key role in the association's lobbying efforts through participating in Calls For Action, serving on member board political action committees, and attending OREA's annual Political Affairs Conference. Get involved and help make your profession better!
