“For too long, delays and red tape in the building approvals process have prevented much-needed housing supply from entering the marketplace, keeping millennials and young families from achieving their dreams of home ownership. Today, Ontario REALTORS are pleased to see the Government consulting on proposed changes to the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS) that will improve and accelerate the construction of more housing.
An important and rewarding part of my job (and my former work in the Ontario legislature) involves seeing this vast and beautiful province of large cities, smaller towns, and rural communities. One thing that always hits home: A one-size-fits-all approach to land use planning is often a roadblock to innovation and growth. This makes homes more expensive and good jobs harder to get. While large cities focus on tempering and managing growth, other areas are looking to accelerate it.
I want to thank Minister Steve Clark for his leadership in bringing forward the More Homes, More Choice Act and launching this consultation on the PPS to support that initiative. Ontario REALTORS look forward to sharing our ideas.”
