What International Women's Day means to Stacey Evoy

Observing International Women’s Day is so important for me. As a female in real estate and a leadership role at OREA, this day is particularly close to my heart. Over the last 100+ years, we have come so far. We now have the right to vote, hold property in our names, practice law, and enter parliament, to name a few.

As OREA approaches its 100th year as an association, I’m thrilled to say that more than half of OREA’s staff and Membership is female – what an accomplishment. I am overjoyed to see more and more women sitting on boards, chairing committees, and taking on volunteer roles that men typically held.

Although we have made such significant strides in the right direction, there is still more to be done. I believe there is a lot we can do to address stereotypes in real estate and society; it starts with understanding and having more women be involved in leadership roles.

As a mother of two daughters and two sons, I believe it is my responsibility to teach by example and keep the needle moving forward – showing those around me that women can do anything.

As I reflect on what International Women’s Day means to me, I want to share some words of advice I have for women and men alike.

Know your limits. Put your family first. Give back to your community, especially to organizations that focus on women and children. Encourage your children and those around you that each of us can do anything and are often capable of way more than we think. I am proud of you, and you can do anything.
