REALTORS® Applaud GO Station Air Rights Announcement

“Today, Ontario REALTORS® are pleased to see bold action being taken by the Doug Ford Government to tackle the housing supply crisis that has left many young families struggling to achieve the Canadian Dream of home ownership.

Innovative ideas like building above transit stations will help pay for expanded transit and create new housing choices for Ontarians. Intensification along transit lines and above GO and TTC stations has been a long-standing recommendation of OREA to get more homes built in our Province.

We live in Canada – it can get rather cold and unpleasant! Building above transit stations will provide families looking for a place to call home with a great affordable option and they can leave the parka and boots at home on the trek to work.

The Provincial Government was elected on a promise to make home ownership more affordable for families and today’s announcement is a good first step towards that goal.

OREA is encouraging the Province to continue to be bold in tackling the housing supply crunch in our province by cutting red tape on development, reducing costs for first-time home buyers, especially the Land Transfer Tax and speeding up the approvals process.

With home ownership rates on the decline in Ontario, now more than ever, young families need the Ford Government to be a champion of affordable home ownership.”
