A CIBC report says Canadian consumer spending will continue to buoy the national economy in 2003. Consumers are borrowing more, partly because their income growth has been minimal, but also because they are confident about the future and have more access to credit through low interest rates. Canadians have added an estimated $15 billion in extra borrowing against the increased valuations of their houses since 2000," the CIBC reports.
