New exam format gives members and students more feedback

Members in the Course 3, articling or broker courses will have noticed a change in OREA exam format. Members and other students who enroll in a registration education course having a start date on or after April 1, 2009 are writing examinations using an all multiple choice testing format.

Members in the Course 3, articling or broker courses will have noticed a change in OREA exam format. Members and other students who enroll in a registration education course having a start date on or after April 1, 2009 are writing examinations using an all multiple choice testing format.

The switch to the multiple choice format allows the College to process examination results faster. This means that students and members get results sooner and can sign up for the next course or take whatever steps they need to take sooner.

The new testing format also gives feedback to students on incorrect answers, highlighting both the chapter and topic related to these questions. This feedback is being provided to all students for all incorrectly answered questions whether or not a passing mark was achieved on the exam.

With frequent changes occurring in the real estate marketplace and incorporated into course curriculum, the new format allows the College to easily introduce new questions to ensure that students are tested on up-to-date course material.

What the exams look like
OREA has developed a guide to help students understand the types of multiple choice questions and the distribution of marks they can expect to see on OREA Real Estate College exams.

The guide gives a breakdown of the question types and levels for each level of registration education courses.

So, for example, the exam template for Course 3, articling and broker courses would contain:

20 level 1, one-sentence questions, worth 20 marks
10 level 2, narrative questions, worth 20 marks
15 level 3, case-study questions, worth 45 marks, and;
5 level 4, simulation type questions, worth 15 marks.
The document “Multiple Choice Examinations: What you can expect” is available to OREA members and students in their My Portfolio accounts. Access to this PDF has been placed in the Inbox under Announcements.

This document can also be accessed on at www.orea.com under Become a Real Estate Professional – Things You Need to Know – College Bulletins. In addition, printed copies of this booklet will be distributed at reception.

All registration education instructors have also been provided with a copy.
