Bill C-66 – the Energy Costs Assistance Measures Act – received royal assent just prior to the federal general election call at the end of November. It was one of several Bills that were rushed through the Senate prior to the fall of the Liberal Government. The legislation authorizes the federal government to make one-time energy relief payments to lower-income Canadians, authorizes funds for the EnerGuide for Houses Retrofit Incentive Program and allows the government to provide assistance to Canadians who want to reduce housing energy consumption.
