Motorcycle rideMotorcycle season is upon us, and that means the Ontario REALTORS CARE® Foundation is gearing up for a good cause.

The Motorcycle Ride for Charity, organized by the Foundation, will take place on Wednesday, July 6 to raise money for homeless shelters and charities across the province.

This year marks the 11th annual ride. The riders are scheduled to depart from the Newmarket office of the Toronto Real Estate Board and continue to Sudbury, Ontario. Along the way, riders will make stops at the following real estate board offices: Barrie and District Association of REALTORS®; Muskoka, Haliburton, Orillia – The Lakelands Association of REALTORS®; and the North Bay Real Estate Board, before reaching the final destination at the Sudbury Real Estate Board.

“Many good causes are supported by the motorcycle ride and it’s a great example of the support that REALTORS® bring to their communities,” says REALTOR® Barb Whitney, president of the foundation. “When our riders travel through the local communities they really demonstrate how much we care about the places in which we live. People really understand that we are giving back to our communities.”

The funds raised go back into communities across Ontario, says Whitney. “That’s why we encourage real estate brokers and salespeople from across the province to play a role by sponsoring a rider or taking part in the ride. The difference they make can be seen all around us.”

“I’m particularly pleased that the ride is starting from my home town of Newmarket this year,” she adds. “I will be riding on the back of a bike for the whole trip this year. I encourage everyone to sponsor us or join us.”

The ride has taken place every summer since 2006, with increasing amounts pledged each year. This year’s goal is $25,000. Last year, the foundation gave out $926,000 in grants to shelter-related charities across the province.
