Learn the ins and outs of IXN

Sharing information is something most REALTORS® want.

Sharing information is something most REALTORS® want. Participants in a recent MLS® summit held at OREA’s annual conference came to the conclusion that the best way to achieve this goal was to work with CREA to expand its IXN (Information Exchange Network). One of the key benefits of using the CREA system is that it already exists, making implementation easier and more cost-effective. So, what is IXN and how do you use it?

What is IXN?
IXN is a tool that is an add-on to the national Web site, mls.ca that offers REALTORS® a place to share confidential listing information. The information is uploaded by your board in the same way it uploads your listing data to mls.ca. Currently, not all boards upload their information, but in future the hope is that all boards will participate and there will be the ability to upload 100 per cent of the local MLS® data to IXN along with local historical MLS® data.

However, other benefits to using IXN include being able to search the database nationally for REALTORS® doing relocation referrals. You can search by agent, city, franchise or company. Also, if you have a client who is relocating to another area, you can show them what their money can buy in the new location.

How to access IXN
You can access IXN from REALTOR Link® at www.realtorlink.ca. First, log in to REALTOR Link® and click on the mls.ca IXN link under “My REALTOR Link®.” The IXN in the address bar indicates that you are logged in to the REALTOR® only side of mls.ca.

Once logged in you can perform a residential search by location, by MLS® number or by community. To view the details of a property, click either the property photo or the MLS® number hyperlink. Detailed information available to REALTORS® only, such as commission rates or when the listing was put on the system, is displayed down the left side of the listing under the address and property remarks.

Learn more
Technology plays a very important role in a REALTOR®’s day-to-day business. To help REALTORS® learn how to make the most of all the technology resources available to them, OREA has a continuing education course entitled, CREA Technology Products. The course not only covers IXN, but mls.ca and ICX.ca which is the commercial version of IXN. As well, participants learn about using WebForms, the OREA Web site and the RECO Web site. For more information about the CREA Technology Products course visit the continuing education section at http://www.oreacollege.com/.
