If you're one of those people who likes to be the “first on your block” to own new technology, check out some of the latest offerings in digital cameras.

If you're one of those people who likes to be the “first on your block” to own new technology, check out some of the latest offerings in digital cameras.

Depending on the quality of prints you need, you can buy a good quality digital camera for anywhere from $250 to $1,000 and up. But you can also spend up to $10,000 for a camera with all the bells and whistles. Examples of affordable cameras include the Canon Powershot S110 Digital, Nikon Coolpix 775 or the FujiFilm Finepix 2600.

If you’re looking for added features, the Olympus 211 Zoom produces instant prints right out of the body of the camera and saves images for later download to your computer.

Or if you really want to have fun, how about a wristwatch that is also a camera? WristTechnology by Casio is a digital camera you can wear on your wrist. It has everything needed to take a picture while on your wrist; lens, shutter and even a tiny LCD to view the pictures – it even tells the time. Contact Casio at 1-800-370-9083 (ext.242).

There’s also a digital camera that attaches to your PalmPilot called the “Palmpix” by Kodak and if you want to go way over the top with digital technology, check out Minolta’s new 3D 1500 camera for three-dimensional photos.

How to choose a digital camera: With so many choices and price ranges, it can be difficult to know how much digital camera you need. Henry’s, a camera and photography supply store, offers the following tips on their web site to determine your needs.

Determine your primary use: If you are using your camera only for web pages, e-mail or record keeping, you should probably purchase a digital camera with less than one MEGA Pixel (one million pixels). These cost efficient cameras take pictures quickly and easily for use on a computer. This type of camera is NOT recommended if you are planning to print your pictures or use this camera instead of a film camera.

If you would like a high-quality camera to print pictures, you should probably purchase a digital camera with more than one MEGA pixel. Generally, when it comes to digital cameras, the more MEGA pixels, the better the quality of your photos. Because there are so many different types of MEGA Pixel cameras, it’s best to familiarize yourself with the technology to find the camera that suits your needs.

Other things to consider are:

  • Memory requirements
  • Types of zoom
  • Storage accessory options
  • Battery power
