The president of the Ontario Real Estate Association notes that change is the new normal in today’s business world. Patricia Verge discusses the challenges and changes in real estate today.

Spring is a time for growth and renewal. That’s why I see this as an ideal opportunity to connect with you, the members of the Ontario Real Estate Association.

Pat VergeWorking in real estate, you may well be in the midst of your busiest season, striving to juggle the many competing demands on your time. Our business is constantly changing, and the pace of change can sometimes be a challenge because our world is moving so fast. Although change can be difficult, we must accept the fact that it is the new normal.

In nature, tremendous change occurs on a regular basis. I feel that the butterfly is one of the best metaphors for change. The transformation of the butterfly is one of the most beautiful miracles of nature, and one of life’s best lessons. Butterflies arrive by persistence, through hard work. The caterpillar goes through various stages before it becomes a butterfly and takes flight. Maya Angelou said that “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”

We as an association must also embrace change. To change is to transform, and to take action. As with the butterfly, it may be uncomfortable and messy along the way, but the result will be worth all of the effort. The metamorphosis is a key part of the journey that will enable us to evolve into the kind of organization that we aim to be.

The Ontario Real Estate Association offers many wonderful programs. We are doing some amazing work in all of our areas of expertise. A recent strategic planning meeting of the board of directors was an important step in this process for OREA. The association is still evolving as we strive to nurture the organization and steer it through the changes ahead, in order to deliver the best products and services for you, our members.

To be ready for the future, we must all adapt to and embrace change. This will be vital to our success. A vision and an overall shared perspective will enable us to complete the kind of transformation we seek.

Guiding the association through the changes that lie ahead is a crucial part of my role. I look forward to working with you and with all levels of organized real estate. Together, I know that we can successfully navigate the road ahead.

Sincerely,

Pat Verge signature
