Consumer awareness week

OREA has partnered with the Ontario government and other consumer and business groups to create a province-wide consumer protection campaign.

OREA has partnered with the Ontario government and other consumer and business groups to create a province-wide consumer protection campaign. Consumer awareness week will run from November 15 – 21, 2004 and will focus on educating consumers about their rights and responsibilities in the marketplace.

This year’s slogan is: “Smart consumers are good for business.” The week will focus public attention on consumer issues ranging from buying a home and identity theft to Internet scams. Other organizations involved are the Retail Council of Canada, Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores and Telus.

OREA President Laura Leyser commented that Consumer Awareness Week is a great opportunity to promote the benefits of using a REALTOR. "We want consumers to know the importance of dealing with qualified real estate professionals and the quality of services and protection our members provide to clients," she says.

OREA will be involved in a series of events to provide tips for buyers and sellers and demonstrate the duties and responsibilities of a buyer’s agent and a seller’s agent.
