Stressed man at desk

Real estate can be a stressful career. Here are seven tips to handle a stressful day.

  • Stressed man at deskSet priorities and put the tasks that you absolutely must do that day at the top of your to-do list. Keep the list short because interruptions are bound to happen. A long list only leads to disappointment when tasks do not get finished.

  • Block time for specific tasks in your daily calendar. For example, allocate one hour for prospecting from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Stop the task when the time is up and move on to the next item.

  • Read something inspirational, motivating or spiritual at the start of the day, or right before bed. This can help you stay positive when dealing with stress later.

  • Book family time or dinner together as if it were any other appointment. Don’t miss this appointment, since these people are your core support group. You need each other.

  • Enlist the help of other salespeople or support staff with specific tasks when your schedule becomes crazy. Offer to return the favour when you have spare time.

  • Get some fresh air -- even if it’s just a walk around the block.

  • Keep work in perspective. Count to ten, have a cup of tea, or joke with colleagues. Remember that it’s good to be busy when you work in real estate.
