CHBA pushes for bigger GST rebates

The new president of the Canadian Home Builders' Association, David Wassmansdorf, wants the federal government to boost the GST rebate for buyers of new homes to reflect higher home prices.

The new president of the Canadian Home Builders' Association, David Wassmansdorf, wants the federal government to boost the GST rebate for buyers of new homes to reflect higher home prices. Currently, new homes are subject to the 7 per cent GST, with a rebate offered on a sliding scale up to a maximum of 4.5 per cent on homes sold for less than $450,000. The rebate scale was set in 1991.
