Consumer awareness week

For the second consecutive year OREA is partnering with the Ontario Government and other consumer and business groups in a province-wide consumer protection campaign.

For the second consecutive year OREA is partnering with the Ontario Government and other consumer and business groups in a province-wide consumer protection campaign. Consumer awareness week will run from November 7 to 13, 2005 and will focus on educating consumers about their rights and responsibilities in the marketplace.

The week will focus public attention on consumer issues ranging from buying a home and identity theft to how to protect yourself from scams in the marketplace. Other organizations involved are the Retail Council of Canada, Interac, and the Travel Industry Council of Ontario.

OREA President Tamer Fahmi commented that Consumer Awareness Week is a great opportunity to promote the benefits of using a REALTOR. "We want consumers to know the importance of dealing with qualified real estate professionals and the quality of services and protection our members provide to clients," he said. “At the end of the day, a better informed consumer will have a lot more confidence in dealing with our members.”

OREA will be involved in a series of events to provide tips for buyers and sellers and demonstrate the duties and responsibilities of a buyer’s agent and a seller’s agent.
