Non-payment of insurance will result in suspension

As a result of amendments to the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002 and regulations, the consequences of failing to pay required insurance amounts have changed.

As a result of amendments to the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002 and regulations, the consequences of failing to pay required insurance amounts have changed. The Registrar is no longer required to issue proposals to revoke the registrations of those registrants who do not pay the required amounts. The Registrar is now obligated to suspend registration on the start date of the new coverage period if the required payment has not been made. Suspended registrants are not entitled to trade in real estate.

Insurance renewal payments must be made by August 15, 2007. The Registrar will initiate the suspension process for each registrant who has failed to make the required payment by the due date.

Insurance suspensions will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on September 1, 2007 as required by the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002.

Report claims by August 31
Due to changes to the RECO insurance program, all claims and incidents that may result in claims must be reported no later than midnight on August 31, 2007 in order to avoid denial of coverage. For more information on the importance of claims reporting, go to http://www.reco.on.ca/, and choose Insurance Renewal 2007.

The total cost of insurance on renewal for errors and omissions, consumer deposit and commission protection insurance, including taxes and all other expenses, is $199.89 for the coverage period from September 1, 2007 to August 31, 2008. There have been no changes to coverage. An insurance renewal package will be mailed to all registrants. Online payments will be available through MyWeb, once the renewal packages have been received.
